Preseason Friendly: Oregon State 0-1 Portland Timbers
By: Bob Kellett | April 10th, 2008Day 5 of the Leonard Griffin Watch begins with a Leonard Griffin sighting and the news that the Leonard Griffin Watch is unofficially over. Our new-old left back was in Corvallis last night for the Timbers exhibition against Oregon State and was captured warming up in the video above that is courtesy of Harmsway01. That is the most exciting guy walking around doing nothing video you’ll see all week. It is great to see Griffin back with the Timbers. A couple of weeks ago it looked like only two of the Fab Four from last year’s backline would return. Now we have all four. Things are starting to fall into place, my friends.
As for the exhibition, the Timbers defeated Oregon State 1-0. Harmsway01 again with the details:
Timbers 1-0 over Beavers. Goal by Vardan Adzemian in the 2nd half. The scoreboard was not functioning, so I’d say it was about the 70th minute.
First half lineup
Burse
Karalexis/Knowles/JT/Scot
Higgins/Gregor/Dombrowski/Olum
Brown/BagleySecond half lineup(1st part)
Burse
Adzemian/Bolkan/JT/Guante
Ready/Lara/Taylor/Poltl
Brown/BagleySecond half lineup(2nd part)
Ready/Poltl/Taylor/Olum
Higgins/BagleySome notes
-Burse was very vocal. He didn’t have to face many shots. Muffed one ball in the upper part of the box that almost gave the Beavs a goal.
-We controlled the ball well offensively in the first half, though not many chances. Brown chipped one just wide over the goalies head. Olum had a header veer just wide too.
Heck, there is even video of the Adzemian goal. We are spoiled today.
So it looks like the starters got a run in the first half and the reserves a run in the second half. I’d expect the starters to go a little bit longer on Friday against the University of Portland and for one of those starters to be a dude named Leonard Griffin.

Left back seemed to be a little bit of a weak spot last night, so Griffin coming back should be good. Scot Thompson was solid on the right, and aside from the one gaffe mentioned above, Burse had a good night in goal. He did get a bit lucky that OSU didn’t convert that one, though. Brown and Bagley left a number of good crosses and balls in, and really had a pretty mediocre night. Everyone got a run out, and no one had a horrible night, so I guess that’s what you want from a preseason game. A working scoreboard would have been pretty welcome, but that’s on OSU. The Beaver midfield has some really talented kids, and their keeper made some fine stops as well.
