Psst. The Portland Timbers are playing on Saturday. Keep it quiet
By: Bob Kellett | April 4th, 2008
Let’s just keep this between you and me and everything will be fine and dandy. The Portland Timbers are going to get a run in on Saturday. They’re playing at the University of Portland against the University of Washington (11:15) and Oregon State (12:30). Both encounters will involve a single 35-minute half. If you keep things on the down-low and happen to be cruising by The Clive on Saturday morning you might be allowed to watch. Here are a few things to look out for if you do happen to wander by the stadium and you do happen to have your eyes open.
1. Position changes: Have there been any significant changes to where the players are playing compared to where they played last weekend? Is Miguel Guante still getting time at left back? Where is Tim Karalexis playing now that Justin Thompson has had a week of practice under his belt?
2. New faces and new accents: Have any new players come aboard since we last saw the lads?
3. Any experiments with the formation: Last weekend it was all 4-4-2. Is Gavin tinkering at all with that?
4. Is Arsene Oka alive? If not, is Tom Taylor the chief suspect in his disappearance?
5. Names on the back of jerseys: Have Scott Bolkan and Maurice Hughes made the club? Does Vardan Adzemian still have his name on his kit? Does Vardan Adzemian realize that it will take all season before any of us know how to type his name?
6. Those other guys: There once was a time when the Timbers scrimmaged against college no-names like Bryan Jordan, Alan Gordon and Jake Sagare. Both U-Dub and OSU produce some solid players. Here’s your chance to see our next hero before we even know who he is.
The weather forecast is calling for rain, but it is a game on The Bluff and I am biking there so at some point between my house and the stadium it will hail. It always does. Hope to see you there.
