Timbers might have lost to Vancouver, still going to win the league
By: Bob Kellett | March 20th, 2008
The details are fuzzier than the peach fuzz on Bryan Jordan’s chin, but apparently the Portland Timbers came out on the losing end of things in today’s scrimmage against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Tukwila. A kind hearted Seattle Sounders fan has posted some updates on the Soccer City USA message board after receiving some updates from a friend who was at the game. You want third hand information? You’ve got it. At least for now until more details emerge.
The relevant snippets.
1-0 Vancouver at the half. Apparently the keeper for Portland was with Chivas USA and had been injured or something. He came off his line to make a good play and clearance but was unluckily chipped from about 30 by the Vancouver winger at about the 30 minute mark.
Hmmm…Brad Guzan has been injured and he plays for Chivas USA but that is doubtful. I also seem to recall that former Timbers keeper Sam Reynolds has been in the Goats’ training camp. That is a possibility, I guess.
Late second half 3-0 for Vancouver. Each side had a former J-league player, and the one suited up for Portland is supposed to have 50 caps and is 33. I am not sure if that is an announced signing or not. 2 Portland players were red carded, and neither was Gregor. He subbed in very late in the second half.
I think his buddy might have been confused about this one. The Whitecaps do have Takashi Hirano who is 33 and has 19 caps for Japan. The Timbers have Keisuke Ota who is in his late 28 and has never played for Japan.
Two red cards. Nice to see the lads in midseason form or more likely the Seattle refs in midseason form.
Three goals…ugh…time to sign some bodies in the back, Gavin.
Portland is wearing maroon.
Could this be the new third alternative kit? Damn questions without answers.
Update: 4-0 final

Ooh, I would love it if Sam came back to play for us. If only because his folks are such cool people.
2 red cards in a scrimmage? What the aitch ee double hockey sticks? Whatever, we still own the middle school cup.
