I'm not terribly worried about attendance just yet. The cold weather last night kept a lot of people home, as did the fact that Minnesota finished 11th last year. If there are people with other priorities who need to choose between this game and Saturday's, they're going to choose the game on the warmer day against the rival team that just happened to run away with the title last year. Saturday's going to be huge.

Carolina RailHawks had good home support last year (tifo, chanting etc), esp for a 1st year team with a horrible name. The Victory had a very loyal and passionate group called 1906 Supporters, but sadly their team went away. Seattle has a smoke machine and a dozen nitwits.

Fitz - The Timbers Army is by far the biggest supporters group in the USL. Vancouver, Montreal and Minnesota all have groups that make some noise but are smaller. We have something special here in Portland.

And, yes, the sawing of the logs will continue on for eternity...

Some of quick thoughts from a USL neophyte ...

1. About the attendance, I know y'all aren't happy with the numbers, but the second home game is typically a hard sell. It's not the opener, and you have all season to catch a game. So don't be so down about it.

2. I know you're biased, but is there another USL following that, in terms of packing an end behind the goal and singing, rivals yours? 'Cause that was pretty cool.

3. That tradition of giving the sawed-off bark to the goalscorer is amazing and must continue if (when) you get an MLS team.

Ugh. I was told that they would move them. But then again, I just tried to email the guy who told me that, and the email bounced back to me.

That really worries me about affecting attendance. After tasting 11,000, nearly 5,000 is not acceptable. FO needs to sort this out.

The reason for having them on that side for TV is because PGE Park is not hardwired for the cameras and they can't position a handheld camera on the East side due to the length of cables needed.

But that was the reason last year. Neither of the first two matches this year have been televised and the benches were moved.

I was told it was a permanent move.

FO says that they have the teams on that side for televised games (they didn't offer an explanation of why it's necessary for the cameras to be opposite the crowd) and will move them back to the other side for the non-televised games.
