Right on about poor Kiki Lara, Bob. The midfield without Potl was barely there and certainly not at all scrappy. The whole team picked up when Little came in for Lara. Is it time to start talking about Gregor getting a little long in the tooth?

Very nice account, Bob.

I thought Higgins was anonymous in central mid. Both he and Gregor hardly made themselves available for the backs, who too often had to lump the ball forward. The all-too-readily petulant Gregor could learn a lesson from the front two about tracing back and consistent work-rate.

There appeared to be very little synchronicity between defense and midfield, and, consequently, midfield and the forwards. Disjointed is the word that comes to mind.

The back four were imperious, though.

I wonder if a formation such as a 4-3-1-2 wouldn't be useful. Suzuki and Brown up top, with Gregor free to roam behind them. A midfield three of Poltl, Olum and any one of Little/Guante/Lara might have the right combination of bite and forward ambition.

She had a great time. She spent the whole match in the beer garden with her binoculars fixed on Suzuki. As an added bonus she got to see his abs when his shirt ripped. Thanks to everyone who talked with her and made her feel welcome. Thanks to Obi for the patch and Chris for the pin. I was hoping Taka would score a goal for her, but I can assure you she will remember her trip to Portland fondly.

I hope Naoko had a good time, despite the poorly played match. I was very impressed to see her at the pub before the match, and despite the obvious language barrier I don't think I managed to offend her too badly (even when I dropped a beer).

Ugh, what an awful game, two dropped points. But we're still in first, three shutouts, have never lost at home under Gavin, etc. etc. etc. Two dropped points, though...damn.

ON TO S--TTLE!

The Timbers just couldn't keep possession all night, it was a frustrating game to watch because we couldn't put together passes and when we did, nothing seemed to come from it.

Is it me or is Gavin keeping Scot Thompson back on purpose for free and corner kicks? He's one of our best jumpers and headers on set pieces and we're not putting him in the play. I saw him come up late, when we're looking for the lone goal to win the game.

I think that Memorial Day is going to be too soon for the Azimano travel group from Japan.

Figure the two-fixture weekend at the beginning of August.

Could be a *huge* event!

I'm also very surprised that Gavin hasn't tried a few Suzuki free kicks. AFG hasn't had very good results with his free kicks this season. He rarely seems to get any height or distance on corners. His set pieces on the field rarely find targets. All in all a real disappointment so far this year. Gavin, give Suzuki some love and let him bend it like, er, uh, Suzuki!

That Brown miss was terrible. Everyone has those, and he's otherwise been great so far this season, but it was handed to him. These are definitely two points dropped, but undefeated after four matches isn't too shabby. You're a bit kinder to the ref than I am - I thought that was a horribly officiated game. But the points dropped didn't come down to the ref, rather the lack of creating chances and the inability to finish the ones that were created. I have to agree that a change in the set pieces might be in order - none were particularly threatening tonight.
