In addition to the drafting of Darlington Nagbe, Portland Timbers today landed Kenny Cooper from 1860 Munich. According to statements from the German club and his agent, Cooper has agreed to terms with the Timbers and will be joining the club ahead of the 2011 season. As mentioned recently, 1860 needed to offload wages and Portland was seeking a serious striker. Both clubs will get what they want in this transaction with the sometimes USA international joining a Timbers’ side largely bereft of scoring options. Of course Cooper can now be considered half of a powerful duo with top draft choice Nagbe, making today quite the day for the Timbers. Portland will have to wait to bring their new striker into the club officially as the MLS international transfer window does not open until Saturday January 15. An announcement is expected on Monday.
