You talk about Steal…a true talent with the last pick in Arturo Alvarez wow!

What a contrast in picks between the two teams. You guys only took one forward, and he likely won’t sign with MLS, while we went for 6 attackers.
I don’t know much about many of the players, but the analysis I listened to was very complimentary to Portland.

Aye, you’re right Brenton. Total polar opposites in draft strategy. Though both did their share of trading in the hours afterward. Hilarious that only 13 of the 20 drafted players remain with our two teams, and two of ours will likely never play for the Timbers.
I was sad to see Alvarez go. But the rest of the trades appear to be all about allocation money, which is said to be bringing in a central midfielder of some repute.

Good luck with David Horst, who was on loan with the Islanders this year. He started slow, but ended up a star and a big fan favourite!

Thanks, we’re excited to have him here in Portland. And even happier to learn he was a fan favorite in Puerto Rico. Do you have any insight on his particular abilities? We’ve also heard that he’s been slightly injured, injuries that RSL blamed on artificial turf. Does that ring true? As you know, we have turf here in Portland.

Horst! He is a good tall defender and header goals scoring (on corner kicks) specialist.
Here, watch him in action against the L.A. Galaxy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4fXd6U4yWkHe almost scored the first goal against the Galaxy, and look for the save he made when our goalie was out of position.
Then comes his moment of Glory when he became a Puertorican household name:

He scored two goals on his speciality headers (after corner kicks) against the Reigning Mexican League Champion in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Can’t say I remember him injured at all during the season. But we have natural turf, so I can’t help you on that one.
Maybe that’s why he started slow when he first arrived to the Islanders. But soon after, he found his form and was one of our main regulars.
Good thing Real Salt Lake cleared him last minute to play in the CONCACAF Champions League for us (they didn’t have to, as RSL was also playing in the tournament). He was a star for us in that tournament.
He will be missed in Puerto Rico.
Good luck to him with Portland!
