Miguel Guante called up for Puerto Rico’s World Cup Qualifiers?
By: Bob Kellett | May 20th, 2008
According to the occasionally reliable Wikipedia and a Spanish language site (Google translated), Miguel Guante has been called up to play for Puerto Rico in its 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Honduras on June 4 and 14. Guante, whose father is Puerto Rican and mother Panamanian, could miss as many as four regular season Portland Timbers games and the exhibition against Juventus Primavera if this turns out to be true. I can’t fault the guy for taking advantage of the opportunity, however, even though Honduras is likely to crush Puerto Rico. Let’s just hope he doesn’t get hurt.
Guante’s former teammate at the University of Portland, keeper Luis Robles, may or may not be named to Puerto Rico’s list, as well as former Timbers midfielder Noah Delgado.

Good luck to Guante … but yeah, Honduras will almost certainly slaughter them.

What about Josh Saunders? I thought he had naturalized during his time with the Islanders and was now on the PR squad.
