We’ve Got a Goalkeeper
By: Sean | March 5th, 2009
I’m sure by now you’ve heard that the Timbers have officially signed a goalkeeper, Steve Cronin, previously with the LA Galaxy. This is good news as we can now officially field a team. The 25-year shot stopper had a successful collegiate career at Santa Clara University and was signed by the San Jose Earthquakes before moving to the Galaxy in 2005. Cronin was also a U17, U18 and U20 US National Team member and was called up to the USNMT camp in 2008.
Plus, I get the impression his fiancée is a celebrity.
Steve, welcome to the Rose City. We hope you’ll like it here. Timbers supporters are the best anywhere–USL-1 or MSL. We have pretty good beers. And you’ll never have to pump your own gas!
Timbers Offsiders, are you excited by this signing? Who would you like to see back him up?

I’m happy to have someone with Cronin’s ability and experience on the squad. As for a backup…I heard Cronin’s for teammate with the Galaxy, Josh Wicks, might not be retained by The Bruce. I would love to see the former Timbers Supporters Player of the Year back in green to compete for a starting spot.

I prefer Josh Wicks. We had a great defense with him in goal.

I’d love to see him and Wicks battle it our for the starting spot, but I’m not sure if ole Wicksy will be heading back this way.
By the way, loved the pic choice for the story…

First, I want to say that I’m a Galaxy supporter.
I traveled to last year’s season opener in Colorado, on the flight back I met Laura (Cronin’s fiancee) not only is she stunning in person, but she actually approached me after seeing all my Riot Squad gear. It’s interesting to meet a player’s girlfriend that not only is athletic herself, but could actually identify the teams supporters group (Bianca Kajlich’s the only other WAG that knows who LARS are, she made us brownies
