Wicks earns Senior Spot with Galaxy, Jordan to sign Developmental Contract
By: Bob Kellett | March 24th, 2008
The writing has been on the wall for a couple of weeks and now the writing is going to be on the contracts. Nick Green, a Southern California-based journalist, gives us the lowdown on Bryan Jordan and Josh Wicks and their quest to make the LA Galaxy.
From 100 Percent Soccer:
No one will be cut, but midfielder Brandon McDonald, defender Michael Gavin and striker Bryan Jordan will all be signed to developmental contracts this week that don’t count against the salary cap or senior roster limit.
Backup goalkeeper Josh Wicks of San Bernandino has won a senior roster spot, while Brazilian midfielder Alvaro Pires (technically still a trialist) is awaiting a work visa any day now.
Congratulations to Jordan and Wicks for taking advantage of their opportunities and for hooking up with a team that surely will provide them with a lifetime worth of stories.
The only question that remains is the compensation the Timbers will receive for both players. I’ve been told that a big announcement will be coming from the club later this week or early next week. Could that be news that we’ll be getting a Beckham friendly in Portland? Time will tell
By the way, Gavin Wilkinson should get credit for giving both these guys a chance last season and for re-signing them this winter. Their absence will hurt, but the club should at least get something in return for them thanks to his foresight.

Wicks will be the Galaxy’s main starting net-minder this season. Fact.
Congrats Josh and Bryan, I’ll be watching and rooting for you to do good things with Goldenballs and Landycakes and other dudes with silly nicknames.

Since Jordan’s is a developmental contract, might we see him back in a Timbers green (or maroon, or yellow or puce?) jersey this season?
