Game 18: AC St. Louis v. Portland Timbers
By: mao | July 27th, 2010With a five-game unbeaten streak going and the Cascadia Cup safely back in the Rose City for another year, Portland Timbers will continue their road trip with a visit to AC St. Louis on Wednesday. St. Louis shockingly drew the Timbers back in the dreadful month of May at PGE Park so Portland will be seeking revenge and to extend their best run of this season.
With the difficulties of the early summer seemingly behind, Portland finally appear to be playing like the kind of side that won the 2009 Commissioners Cup. Timely goal-scoring and resolute defense have put the Timbers back into the top half of the league’s playoff outlook. This particular trip to St. Louis will provide a nice opportunity for Portland to extend the short unbeaten streak and continue to build confidence and momentum heading into the latter stages of this 2010 season. With so many away games left to play, nine of the last thirteen to be exact, each chance to take three points from a lesser side is very important. Clearly St. Louis are not of the same caliber as these Timbers, so anything less than three points will be a disappointment.
