Gavin seemed really crushed by the Lyon news as he was relaying it to us. It seemed to really be a big disappointment to him and the club to have them back out.

Gavin sounded very hopeful of having Burse back when we spoke to him, but it wasn't the focus of our talk and we didn't ask very many followups.

According to the Portland Tribune, the two goalkeepers in camp are MLS reserves Corbin Waller (Houston) and Michael Gustavson (San Jose), and confirms what Bob said, that we're likely to see very little of Ray Burse (if at all) for the rest of the season.

I don't begrudge the Team for putting a lot of importance into friendlies. They bring out the closet fans, introduce the Timbers to people - football fans - who might not otherwise to attend games. If all goes well, those one-time attendees come back and become Timbers Fans.

Where I agree with Jon is one the "coming back to more games" part. If the team doesn't give priority to actual competitive games (and I can't say this is the case with league games, but it is most definitely the case with the Open Cup, as evidenced by the Hollywood match), then the casual/one-time fans aren't going to come back.

I would rather see the Scott Bolkans and Tom Taylors play in the meaningless games, and the starting XI out there to win the games that count (even if it results in an embarrassingly lopsided win, as in the US' 8-0 borefest in the first leg against Barbados last weekend).

Also: I'm very excited that we'll be getting BJ soon.

It is a proven fact, after all, that everyone loves BJ.

My initial response to that list of items... why are friendlies the most important matches for the organization?
