Cup-tied Burse, Larry the Cat, Arsene’s Girlfriends

Racking up the frequent flyer miles
The Timbers might have the weekend off, but that doesn’t mean that their keeper will be free to stay home and watch the third season of Arrested Development on DVD. Ray Burse will join FC Dallas in San Jose this weekend and be available for the game against the Quakes on Saturday and the Reserve game on Sunday. Let’s hope this is the last time this season that Ray has to return to Dallas for a regular season game. According to someone in the know in Dallas, Burse will be cup-tied for the US Open Cup (3rd comment), meaning he won’t be allowed to play for the Timbers. I don’t necessarily mind that. After all, Dallas is paying Burse’s $17,000 salary and I’d like to see Jordan James earn some meaningful minutes this year just in case he has to fill in for Burse during league games.

Larry O has a nickname
According to those keeping track of him back in his native Kenya, Lawrence Olum is known at “The Cat”. Now you know.

Will PGE Park look like this when the Timbers are in MLS?

This was the scene in the Solomon Islands for the first leg of the O-League final featuring future Timbers legend Benjamin Totori. The game drew more than 20,000 people. Forget terraces at PGE Park. We need a dirt hill!

Arsene Oka has a fan club
The legend of the player who may or may not exist grows. Arsene Oka not only has a fan club but he also has a message board dedicated to those who are interested in being his girlfriend. Heck, I’d date him if that would help him show up in Portland.

Thank you for making the Timbers Offside the 4th most watched blog at Noon, 5pm, 6pm and 11pm
The preliminary numbers are in for April and this little ol’ blog saw the fourth most visitors of any blog on The Offside. Roma, Italy and LA Galaxy are on the podium this month. I can’t thank you enough for stopping by even on days like today when there is zilch going on. Group hug.

Maybe you can do a “cars of the Timbers” segment like the one on the high rollers of the Euro leagues?

    Should be interesting…

All our guys are required take public transportation or ride their bikes to games or drive a Prius! That’s why we had to get rid of Josh Saunders and his sports car.

There actually is amusing tale about Andrew Gregor selling his car here.

    “The Cat”???

I liked Bruces “Boom Boom” or “Boomer” from the Gonzaga match.

I didn’t think Burse could be “cup-tied” to any team until he had been on the active roster for a US Open Cup game.

Unless somehow they put that into the conditions of the loan, but I’m not sure how that would be enforceable.

You’re right, Allison. Things could certainly change. Dallas might want to use the US Open Cup as an opportunity to gain experience. Or they might not use him at all. Ultimately it is their call. I remember this was almost an issue one year when Saunders was on loan from LA, but it turned out to be a non-issue when the Gals let him play for the Timbers.
