Portland Timbers on the (You)Tube
By: Bob Kellett | April 7th, 2008
It is day two of the Leonard Griffin Watch and our wayward son has not officially returned home nor has his name appeared in any other soccer playing city. I was hoping I could dig up a YouTube clip of his goal against Rochester last season but I couldn’t find the video anywhere. Instead you will have to look at the picture above and read the words of Soccer City USA’s Allison Andrews: “In the 32nd minute, the Timbers would double their lead when a long ball down the right side to Bagley was dropped back to Gregor, who passed to the center of the pitch to a wide-open Griffin, who had several seconds to measure a shot and hit a blast from 35 yards out that bent left-to-right and into the upper right corner, and the unlikely blast from Griffin had given the Timbers a 2-0 lead.” It was a thing of beauty. One of the top three goals of the season in my opinion.
During my video searching journey I came across some videos of a few of our new guys. After the jump are a few more video clips of some of the Timbers new players in action. It is Monday after all and you need an excuse not to work for a few more minutes.
If you were like me when you found out that the Portland Timbers had signed a World Cup goal scorer for Japan you probably did some sniffing on the interwebs and you came across the above below showing Takayuki Suzuki scoring goals. Suzuki has already had some YouTube moments this season for the Timbers and we are still only in the preseason.
The Suzuki Accordian - This one has to be added to the Timbers set pieces playbook. Put Justin Thompson on one side and Cameron Knowles on the other and the wall will crumble like it is in Berlin.
Suzuki’s new strikeforce mate Chris Brown has also scored a pretty two or goal in his days. His efforts come in at number 4 and number 1 in this video:
I know you want to get to know trialist Jamie Watson as much as possible before you never hear about him again or before he becomes the best thing since sliced bread. Here is a 3-part raw interview that actually kept me entertained for about a part and a half. Seems like a decent dude.
What will Vardan Adzemian look like when he scores a goal for the Portland Timbers? We may never know, but here is his goal celebration for an unnamed team in an unnamed league versus an unnamed opponent. He almost looks like Larry Olum in the air.

I can’t play this from work, but I think you can get the highlights of the Rochester match and Leo’s goal here:

Leo’s golazo vs Rochester is at the :31 mark of this very nice season highlighs video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=y3-xI7hbCzI
If we can get away with it, that accordian play would be sweet with Gregor’s FK prowess. But is that strictly legal?

And yes the video Allison posted also has it, about the 1:55 mark (Gregor’s goal earlier in the game was also pretty dang sweet).

Vardan Adzemian looks like a hidden talent waiting to come out when chances are given. Ive seen him play in L.A. He was also in Greece’s Panathinaikos U-21.
