Portland Timbers to host Tigres at PGE Park on July 15
By: Bob Kellett | June 12th, 2008
I’ve been looking for an excuse to dust off my Tigres U.A.N. L. wrestling mask and now I have found one. The Portland Timbers will host Club Deportivo U.A.N.L on July 15 at PGE Park. This is the second Mexican club the Timbers will face this year. Since the US Open Cup wasn’t important and the USL First Division is slipping away, I fully expect to read that the Timbers are now concentrating on winning the Mexican exhibition season league title. It would go along nicely with the Parks and Rec trophy they hoisted in 2007.
Let’s review this year’s friendlies:
June 14 – Juventus Primavera
July 3 – Monarcas Morelia
July 15 – Tigres
July 26 – TBA
I’m hoping that that TBA is a good one because right now I have to say that I am a little underwhelmed with this year’s slate of exhibitions. Tigres is a nice addition and I bet all three draw decent crowds and you know that if the Timbers are involved I would even attend a game against Gonzaga in the snow in Forest Grove, but I’m just not feeling the love that I did when Merritt Paulson mentioned a few months ago that he was trying to bring two Mexican clubs, an English side and a Spanish team to PGE Park this year.
I think I need to take my mid-afternoon Geritol. Or to take some happy pills in the form of a victory against Atlanta this evening.
