Stop, drop, and blog

I swear, I’m not his agent
Continuing on the Lawrence Olum is our Savior theme….over the past two seasons Olum has started 14 regular season games for the Portland Timbers. The Timbers are 10-0-4 in those games.

Staring at the Stats
Goals Leaders
Chris Brown - 5
Justin Thompson, Chris Bagley - 2
Five Players - 1

It is worth noting that during the Bobby Howe era the lowest scoring leading goal scorer in any one season scored 13 goals. Since then the leading goal scorers in 2006 (Luke Kreamalmayer) and 2007 (Andrew Gregor) both scored 8 goals. Bring back Bobby Ball! Just kidding. Bring back Calgary and Edmonton!

Assists
9 Players - 1

Think we could use a playmaker on this squad?

Minutes
Cameron Knowles - 1,440
Leonard Griffin - 1,389
Chris Brown - 1,336

Knowles has played every minute during the past two seasons, but you already knew that. Keep an eye on Brown’s minutes. During his 11-year MLS career he only played more than 1,300 minutes in a season just four times.

The Honors Continue
It is a good thing that the first goal against Atlanta on Saturday, you know the ugly one that came off a corner, was changed from being ruled an own goal to a goal scored by Chris Brown. Otherwise he would not have been named to the USL Team of the Week and that would have made him sad. The beers are on Brownie tonight.

Oh, and you’ll have a hard time convincing me that Carolina’s keeper was better than Ray Burse last week.

Yet another annoying message from Blog Central
My home computer fried this morning. Literally. I smelled something funny and looked down at the ground only to find that the AC adapter was smoking more than Shawn Saunders after a game at the Bullpen. Fortunately the house didn’t burn down and the chickens are still alive, but it was touch and go there for about 2 seconds. The bottom line is that the posting schedule for this blog will be out of whack until a replacement adapter arrives next week. I apologize for the inconvenience and fully blame Andrew Gregor for the problem.

Craziest WTF offensive stat of the season so far: Suzuki and Gregor, combined, through 16 league games, have 1 goal and 1 assist.

Start Olum and Jordan up top next week with Brown in the attacking mid spot?

Speaking of our impish captain: any word on when Gregor will be back from his hamstring injury? I saw him on the bench last weekend; is he fit? We have a league game in 7 days and it would be nice to have him back in the lineup.
