US Open Cup: Kitsap 1 – Timbers 4
By: mao | June 22nd, 2010Bright Dike recorded a hat-trick and Ross Smith scored the opener from a header as Portland Timbers thrashed Kitsap Pumas in Bremerton, 4-1. The second round victory in the US Open Cup sends the Timbers back to the third round and a home date with Seattle Sounders on June 30. Just last season Portland hosted Seattle but fell 2-1 as the Sounders scored in the very first minute of the game and never looked back. A measure of revenge will surely be on the minds of returning players, not to mention the excitement of the opportunity to play an MLS side at PGE Park. There is little doubt, as least season, that the game next Wednesday will completely sell out. It does seem that Portland are a completely different side when playing in Open Cup matches or friendlies, so perhaps that run will continue in a positive way against the hated Sounders.
